DRIVEN HUNTS IN ITALY

PERIOD: November through January
COUNTRY: ITALY
AREA: Hunting grounds Monte Peglia in Umbria, half way from Rome to Florence.
It is one of the best organized private big and small game driven hunts in a fenced area in Italy in the heart of Umbria on the border with Tuscany. We organize a mixed driven hunt on fallow deer, mouflon sheep, red deer and wild boar in one part of the reserve and in the second part only wild boar driven hunt is organized while the third part of the same reserve is dedicated to pheasant hunting.
Big game driven hunts are organized in a typical Italian manner with about one hundred hounds who aid the staff to drive the wild game in the direction of the hunters. Each hunter has his own waiting blind and his guide who helps him during the hunt and points out the game to him. The hunt lasts for 3-4 hours and ends with a lunch in an excellent Italian restaurant near the reserve.
Regarding the pheasant hunt, 3-4 driven hunts are organized daily with drivers and hounds. The hunters stand on the fire line and shoot at pheasants driven by the drivers. Each hunter will have his own assistant who will load his gun and mark the harvested game. Hunters will have an al fresco lunch after the hunt if the weather is good, if not, in a typical Italian restaurant.
After lunch a table with all the harvest game is made and a group photograph is taken.
The accommodation is provided in a typical centuries old hunting lodge with all comforts and an excellent choice of Italian dishes and vines from the best Italian vineyards.
